What we do
Meaningful activities
The Soldiers’ Home organization offers a meaningful hobby to their members and do important work for those serving in the Finnish Defence Forces and the Finnish Border Guard.
Soldiers’ home activities support the well-being of conscripts, women in voluntary military service and those undergoing refresher training in the reserve.
Soldiers’ home activities are voluntary, and they can be practiced in different forms depending on one’s life situation. Soldiers’ home service is most visible in soldiers’ homes located in connection with garrisons and in mobile soldiers’ homes during the Finnish Defence Forces’ field exercises. Some local larger associations also have paid staff, which means that the board of the association also handles matters that are part of the employer’s duties.
A soldiers’ home is a building handed over by the Finnish Defence Forces or the Border Guard for the use of the Soldiers’ Home Association. It’s a place where conscripts can spend their free time and meet their loved ones and it offers café services, but there is no obligation to buy.
The mobile soldiers’ homes provides café services in off-road conditions.
Soldiers’ home associations organize membership events where it is possible to get to know others participating in the activities and to develop and share ones own expertise. Associations inform about their activities, events and news through membership letters and on their own websites or social media channels.
The Soldiers’ Home Heritage Day is celebrated annually on the 7th of May. This is a perfect time to make our volunteer hobbie visible in local media and social media channels.
"“Did you know that only registerd soldiers' home associations that are part of the Soldiers’ Home Association can maintain soldiers' homes within the Finnish Defence Forces and offer café and other leasure services?”"
